16. Stripe Integration

Using Stripe Payment Links for payments through freehand.

✅ 1. Getting Started – A Stripe Account

You’ll need a Stripe account to accept payments through freehand.

You can sign up and create a Stripe account through their website: www.stripe.com

✅ 2. Stripe Payment Links

When you want a client to pay a deposit or an invoice from freehand, you’ll need a Stripe Payment Link. This is done by creating a Product in Stripe, then creating a Payment Link and pasting the Payment Link URL into the freehand quote or invoice payment button field.

✅ Step 1: Log into Stripe

  • Go to your Stripe Dashboard
  • Click Products in the left-hand menu then Click Add Product

✅ Step 2: Create a Product

For use in freehand, a Product just represents the deposit or invoice payment amount.

  • Name: Keep it simple and descriptive, like ‘Deposit Payment’ and ‘Invoice Payment’
  • Description: Optional, you can leave blank
  • Add a Price: Select One-off (Payment options are set by default to Recurring so be extra careful to select One-off)
  • Click Add Product

💡For use in freehand you can give your products the same names – ‘Deposit Payment’ and ‘Invoice Payment’. These are are the names displayed on the payment checkout page along with the payment amount.

That’s all you really need—no need for advanced options.

✅ Step 4: Get the Payment Link

After saving the Product:

  • Click to open the Product you just created
  • Create a Payment Link – access the Create a Payment Link feature by clicking the three dots … at the end of the Pricing row. Create a Payment Link can be accessed under the ‘Accept Payments’ section of the dropdown menu.
  • After clicking Create a Payment Link the details page will open and display a preview of your payment checkout page.
  • Click Create Link
  • You can also create a Payment Link through the left-hand menu.
  • Click Payment Links in the left-hand menu and click New
  • Select your Product from the list and click Create Link
  • Copy the Payment Link URL

✅ Step 5: Add the Payment Link to freehand Quotes and Invoices

  • In freehand, create a Quote or Invoice or edit an existing Quote or Invoice
  • Paste the Payment Link URL into the payment button field
  • When the client views their Quote or Invoice in the portal, they’ll see a payment button → clicking it opens Stripe’s secure checkout page and they can make a payment to you.

✅ An Example

  1. You want a £50 deposit for a project.
  2. Create a Product in Stripe → ‘Deposit Payment’
  3. Add a price → £50one-time payment
  4. Create the Payment Link
  5. Copy the Payment Link URL.
  6. Paste it into the freehand Quote

Now the client can view the Quote in their portal and click the Pay Deposit button, which takes them straight to Stripe checkout.

✅ When to Create New Products & Payment Links

You can reuse your payment links as many times as you like.

  • If you need to use a different amount or name, create a new Product and Payment Link.
